Many of AP's Royal Oak models released this year feature a dedicated "50 YEARS" skeletonized automatic rotor, including a three-hand date automatic and chronograph with a "next-generation design." This "next-generation" design naturally distinguishes it from previous Royal Oaks. The most obvious difference is the dial, where the original metal "AP" abbreviation and "AUTOMATIC" embossed inscription have been removed. Instead, the full name "AUDEMARS PIGUET" has been rendered in three dimensions using a 3D-printing electroplating process (similar to the new technology used in the 2019 CODE 11.59 series logo). Compared to last year's major Royal Oak facelift, which retained only the "AP" logo, this seems like a deliberate split between two distinct lines. While it might not look different at first glance, the new design does feature larger bevels on the connecting links at the top and bottom of the case, allowing the strap to start closer to the skin and follow the curve of the wrist. The gradually decreasing thickness of the links further enhances the overall fit of the bracelet. While these subtle changes may seem minor, they can be a significant improvement for those with smaller wrists who have struggled to comfortably fit a Royal Oak in the past. Oh, and if you're really into detail, the hour markers on the new flagship models are now uniformly proportioned for all watch sizes.
